Thread: Tracking clicks

  1. #21
    One of my new year's resolutions this year (LOL) was to learn and better use Google Analytics for better information. Here's a link I found recently that I'm going to try out with one of my blogs where I'm using Prosperent. Don't have a clue what I'm doing, but I'll see if it will at least tell me the basic "where did they go and from which of my pages did they leave" - just that would tell me volumes for future development.

    https://support.google.com/analytics.../1136920?hl=en (this however, assumes we have control of the outbound link construction)

    http://searchsignals.com/tutorials/t...e-tag-manager/ (this involves creating an account and more stuff I haven't had time to do yet)

    Hope this helps & if you get anywhere with them, let us know.

    btw....this is the TOS for using Google's Tag Manager if you want to try that route:

    Google Tag Manager Use Policy
    Use of the Google Tag Manager (the “Service”) is subject to this Google Tag Manager Use Policy. This Policy applies in addition to the Google Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
    If You use the Service to support products or services from Google, from a 3rd party or designed by You (“3rd Party Tags”), You will have and abide by an appropriate privacy policy, and will comply with all applicable agreements and regulations (also relating to the collection of information), including:
    If You have 3rd Party Tags delivered through the Service:
    • Google is not responsible for 3rd Party Tags.
    • Google may screen automatically such 3rd Party Tags to ensure compliance with this policy.
    • You guarantee that You have the rights to upload the 3rd Party Tags.
    • You agree not to, and not to allow third parties to use the Service or interfaces provided with the Service:
      1. to engage in or promote any unlawful, infringing, defamatory or otherwise harmful activity;
      2. to disable, interfere with or circumvent any aspect of the Service;
      3. to upload any data to Google that personally identifies an individual (such as a name, email address or billing information), or other data which can be reasonably linked to such information by Google; or
      4. to access any other Google product or service in a manner that violates their respective terms.
    Our use of Google Tag Manager data
    We may collect information such as how the Service is used, and how and what tags are deployed. We may use this data to improve, maintain, protect and develop the Service as described in our privacy policy, but we will not share this data with any other Google product without Your consent.

    If you're using WordPress, the All In One SEO Pack has a setting "Track Outbound Links." The documentation for the plugin is here: http://semperplugins.com/documentation/google-settings/

    From the plugin's documentation:
    To track outbound links check this box and All in One SEO Pack will add the necessary code to the source of your website.
    We'll see. I'm setting up one of my blogs to do that.

    Yuuup, I understand completely. I went the plugin route myself, rather than that Tag site. Google wants to rule the world. Not in my house; I only let them in as far as I can still keep control.

    conspiracy abound. I don't like them either, but they do bring in the money. so I use their tools. It's free and quite extensive. And I seriously don't care if they "spy" on me or not.
